NYC Proptech Delegation 2024: A Success

Proptech Norway's annual Proptech Delegation to the world's unofficial proptech capital was fun and insight-heavy.

The 2024 NYC Proptech Delegation, hosted by Proptech Norway in collaboration with The Norwegian Consulate General in New York, and Innovation Norway, created valuable new connections with into the possibilities and know-how of U.S. market. Proptech Norway expresses our deepest gratitude to our partners for their invaluable support in making this event a success.

From November 10 to 14, a select group of real estate and proptech leaders engaged with global frontrunners in AI, climate tech, and real estate innovation. The delegation experienced curated site visits, enlightening discussions, and networking opportunities, positioning Nordic companies at the forefront of global markets.

Daniel Butenschøn, CEO of Proptech NOrway, led the delegation with Bjarne Hareide. He tries to summarize his major takeaways from the intense, jam-packed delegation:

"For our Nordic entrepreneurs, the takeaways are obvious, as there is a great need for Nordic proptech solutions over there. Nordic solutions are clearly advanced compared to their American counterparts, and major U.S. real estate corporations are impressed and inviting. It was also surprising how much the proptech companies need to change their pitches towards this market. For instance tone down sustainability effects and rather focus on customers' bottom line," Butenschøn says.

"However, Real Estate executives may not find as much innovation as they perhaps hoped to with their U.S. counterparts. But seeing how public corporations actually drive real estate innovation was an eye-opener for many, as was meeting the world-leading AI researchers at Columbia University."

Key takeaways

Climate Tech Synergy: Insights from Governor’s Island’s Climate Campus and other forums underscored the critical role of tech-driven sustainability in reshaping real estate.

AI in Real Estate: Engaging with New York’s leading AI researchers and practitioners highlighted the potential of advanced analytics in transforming property operations and decision-making.

Public-Private Collaboration: NYC’s robust ecosystem of public-private partnerships serves as an exemplary model for fostering innovation in real estate.

Market Expansion Opportunities: Delegates gained actionable knowledge about entering the US market, with plans for reciprocal initiatives to bring US companies to Norway.

Networking Impact: Strategic connections forged during the delegation promise long-term collaborations and growth for Nordic companies in global markets.

We look forward to planning next year's delegation and perhaps hosting a reverse delegation in Oslo, continuing the momentum of shared innovation and opportunity.
